From December 1, 2016, Japan has changed the label of the washing care label for textile products such as clothing to the new "JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) L0001 (New JIS)".
In the new washing label, a new type of washing label such as a drum type washing and drying machine, and a new washing label suitable for bleaching "oxygen bleaching" such as colored clothing are added. In addition, the division of the applicable temperature is more detailed than in the past, and the number of the washing labels has changed from the conventional 6 classification 22 types to the 5 classification 41 types.

The new JIS tag symbol is a combination of 5 basic symbols and several additional symbols. The basic symbols include "home washing", "bleaching", "drying", "ironing", and "commercial washing".
The additional symbols are "Strong Weakness of Processing", "Processing Temperature", and "Prohibition of Processing and Operation".
In terms of household washing, the label refines the temperature of the washing water and details the power line standard of the washing machine.
The “bleaching†sign not only changes the shape, but also changes its meaning. In the past, there was only chlorine bleach, and the new JIS included oxygen bleach.
The drying symbols are divided into natural drying and drying in a cage.
Natural drying is a method in which the drying method is indicated by a horizontal line and a vertical line in a square. The additional twisting of the cage is that if there is a circle in the box, it means that the basket can be dried, and the temperature is indicated by "·".
It is worth noting that European and American countries do not have the habit of naturally drying the laundry. There is no natural dry label symbol in the international standard (ISO3758).
To this end, Japan applied for an international proposal to join the sign indicating natural dryness, and the international standard was revised in April 2012. Therefore, in October 2014, Japan established JISL0001, which is unified to international standards. In October 2015, Japan revised the quality labeling regulations for textile products, effective from December 1, 2016.
In terms of ironing, the new label will make the temperature more detailed, and considering the water vapor factor, the manufacturer is required to consider the fabric properties of the product more carefully.
Commercial washing label symbols have also changed a lot, and the new JIS has added the signs of dry cleaning and wet washing (commercial washing). The letters "P", "F", and "W" are indicated in the symbol circle.
"P" means that a solvent such as tetrachloroethylene is used, "F" means that a petroleum solvent is used, and "W" means that it can be wet-washed (washed, rinsed, dehydrated, dried), and is washed by a laundry.
There have also been signs of commercial washing in the past, but the main implication is that consumers are entrusted to the laundry to wash. The new JIS also places higher demands on commercial detergent manufacturers.
