Kunlun jade is a kind of nephrite, also known as Qinghai jade, which is produced in the Qinghai province from the eastern edge of the Kunlun Mountains. It is in a metallogenic belt with Hetian Yutong, Kunlun jade in the east of Kunlun Mountain, and Hetian jade in the north of the mountain. The distance between the two is about three hundred kilometers.
Kunlun jade has fine texture, elegant and refreshing, good oiliness and high transparency. Can be divided into white jade, gray jade, sapphire, leucorrhea green, sugar-coated white and so on. It is top grade with crystal round, pure and flawless, no cracks and no impurities. The main variety of Kunlun nephrite is also the largest variety, and the industry is sometimes referred to as “Qinghai Whiteâ€.
Kunlun jade is mainly produced in the plateau hilly area in the southwest of Golmud City, Qinghai Province, more than 100 kilometers along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. There are about three mines mined. Although the local altitude is high, but the relative height difference is not large, the traffic is convenient.
The jade produced in this area is mainly mine mining materials, a small amount of mountain water (Gobi) materials, no sub-materials. The production area belongs to the eastern margin of the Kunlun Mountains and is part of Qinghai Province. It is about 300 kilometers away from the border of Xinjiang, and the Hetian jade produced in the end of the city and the Ruoqiang has a close relationship on the geological structure background.
Identification characteristics of Qinghai jade:
Shape: The mining of Qinghai material has not seen the production of seed material. The current output is in the form of mountain material. These mountain jade have a rough surface and many angular shapes and are irregular blocks. The output of Qinghai is large, the gap is uneven, and the large surface is neat.
Outer skin: The outer skin of Qinghai material is the same as other mountain jade, which is the uneven surface of the hair. It is white, translucent and yellow-gray. For different colors of the skin, the industry has a different name.
Color: Most gray-white - wax white, used to call this "Qinghai White". Another "rice soup" Baiyushan material, yellow-gray, gives people a feeling of grayness. According to the appearance characteristics, the insiders vividly described the different varieties of Qinghai Mountain material as “Milk White Jadeâ€, “Mi Tang White Jadeâ€, “Pear Blossom White Jade†and so on.
Transparency: Most of the green sea materials are translucent, and the transparency is significantly higher than that in Xinjiang and in Russia. Therefore, the texture and dignity are insufficient, which seems to be somewhat light. In some Qinghai materials, the transparency is not uniform enough on the same piece of material. It is often that the partial block surface is translucent and the partial block surface is opaque.
Texture: The internal structure of Qinghai material is slightly thicker but more uniform, the texture is not delicate and slightly "nen", the head of the water (or "heavy weight"), waxy luster and lack of moisturizing luster like "condensation".
For higher transparency, it is easier to see white "brain flower" shaped stone flowers. Transparent and aura, often "waterline", "water dew" pattern. Cotton-like splitting and black-brown sable spots, "stone ribs", "stone nails", etc. are common jade in Qinghai mountain materials.
The identification method of Qinghai jade and Hetian jade can be observed with a magnifying glass of twenty times. Hetian jade has a sweat pore similar to the surface of human skin, and Qinghai jade does not. At present, the price of ordinary Qinghai jade on the market is not high, because its output is very large, it is relatively common in the national market, but the quality of Qinghai jade is still relatively rare, and there are very few on the market.
