Identification of jade color

In the process of learning jade knowledge, we must also understand how the color of jade is formed. Because it plays an important role in the quality of jade.

Pure jadeite minerals are colorless or white, and the formation of color is the result of the interaction of elements of jadeite in the long-term geological process.

1. Green: Chromium (Cr3+) ions replace aluminum ions (Al3+) in hard jade minerals. The higher the chromium (Cr3+) ion content, the deeper the green. If the chromium (Cr3+) ion content reaches the limit, a sodium chromite (NaCrSi2O6) mineral, that is, an opaque brilliant green dry jadeite, is formed.

2. Red and yellow: caused by iron oxide immersion in secondary conditions. This color of jade is often referred to as "ç¿¡". The high-quality color of the "ç¿¡" is extremely rare, belonging to the top grade in the jade.

3. Purple: At present, the cause of purple jade is still inconclusive. It is generally believed that Mn instead of Al in jadeite will cause purple.

4. Black: Ink is actually not black, mostly dark green. Often caused by omphacite or basic hornblende or secondary oxides.
