Recently, South Korea has notified the WTO Secretariat of a draft circular (G/TBT/N/KOR/336) that revise the standards for textile safety and quality marking.
In order to ensure the safety of infants and children and prevent harm caused by toxic substances or fire, Korea proposed amendments to the safety and quality mark standards. The revisions are as follows:
Limit the use of heavy metals in textiles to intercept electromagnetic waves;
Request warning signs on infants/children's sleepwear made of flammable materials;
Limit the use of phthalate plasticizers on bags for children's products.
The proposed approval date and proposed effective date of this notified regulation are September 2012 or later.
