Syria restricts imports of more than 10,000 items of clothing

In order to reduce the speed of the loss, the Syrian government suddenly announced on September 22th that except for essential livelihoods such as raw materials and food, and projects that could not be produced domestically, all imports exceeding 5% of tariffs were temporarily banned.

Syria's tariff rate is 11 levels, ranging from 1% to 60%. The import ban will affect more than 10,000 items of goods, including automobiles, furniture, clothing, household appliances and some food products.

After the ban was announced, the price of cars rose. Take Kia Rio as an example. The price of each car was originally US$14,500, which rose to US$18,000. The price of sunglasses was doubled, and the TV price was increased by 2,000. Up to 5,000 shillings.

In Sept. (2011), Syria imported 20,000 new cars every month. After the occurrence of **, the number of new cars imported in May was only 2,000.

On September 26, Syria passed the 2012 government budget of US$26.5 billion, an increase of 58% from 2010. It is estimated that Syrian existing ** can be imported for 16 months.

In the 1980s, Syria restricted the import of foreign products. By 2000, the country implemented economic liberalization reform measures and opened foreign goods imports. Before that, foreign goods could only be imported by smuggling.
