Jade foil to come to one? Are you going to scrub or tempered glass?

Jade coating treatment is different from the previous waxing, pickling, dyeing and other detection range of so-called B goods, C goods, can still produce an authoritative A cargo identification certificate. Some merchants use various processing techniques to cover up these defects to earn more profits. Jade's coating treatment is such a treatment.

Jade Coating | "dressing" jade

The film-treated jade, also known as “dressing” jade, is coated with a green film on the surface of the natural colorless or light-colored pavilion with good transparency and texture to mimic the natural high-grade jade. The film-coated jade is specially displayed in the jade wholesale market, and it is used to deceive people to buy goods. Once they are seen, they will not sell them, and they are ready to lie. Because this kind of goods is posing as a higher-grade jade, if it is fooled, it will suffer greater economic losses.

The coating method is rarely reported, but it can be inferred that the basic method of coating is to use a green gel-like substance, and apply this viscous gel evenly with a brush to the cut surface and remove the oily ring. On the top, the green gum volatilizes and solidifies to form a film.

Coating film jade | identification features

1, color distribution characteristics

The coating jade generally does not see the basic characteristics of natural jade, such as the orange peel effect on the surface of natural jade, and the granular structure of the surface.

The coated film is characterized by a uniform green distribution and a full color, and the colors of the front and back are the same, and there is no natural jade-like, strip-like, fine vein-like, silk-like color distribution.

2, the film layer falls off

The film-treated film layer is a high-molecular polymer, which has low hardness, is not firmly bonded, and is easy to fall off. As long as a hard object (such as a knife) can be used to cut the film layer. The coated jadeite wrapped in the same paper bag will also cause the film to fall off due to mutual friction. Sometimes there is a gap between the film layer and the jade, which forms a halo.

3, sticky hands

As we all know, the natural jade surface is very smooth, the tentacles are icy, and the coated jade is coated with a layer of gel. When rubbed by hand, it can be found to be as smooth as a natural jade and has a sticky hand.

4, capillary lines

Since the hardness of the film layer is very low, it is easy to be scratched by hard objects. Under the magnifying glass, it can be seen that the surface has small scratches on the surface, which is not found in natural jade. At the same time, the phenomenon of orange peel on the surface of natural jade will become invisible or invisible, and the granular structure of the surface (inter-grain boundary) will also be invisible.

5, refractive index

Refractive index and infrared spectroscopy are also the key to identify the coating jadeite. Usually, in the infrared spectrum, the coated jadeite has the same infrared spectrum (transmission method) characteristics as the B jadeite, that is, it has 2850cm-1, 2920cm-1, 3030cm-1, etc. The absorption peak of the wave number. The refractive index of the coated jade film layer is also much lower than that of natural jadeite, only about 1.55.

6, infrared spectrum

The coated jadeite has the same infrared spectrum (transmission method) characteristics as the B jadeite.

Since the natural jade and the coating layer have different absorption spectra for visible light, there will be different spectral characteristics from the natural green jade: the wider in the red region absorbs the narrow band from the beginning, resulting in a truncated red region, but not visible. The form of the 660nm absorption narrow band that is often stained with green jade needs to be taken care of. Do not mistake the natural spectrum. The spectrum of natural green jade is a three-step absorption edge (line).
