US May average daily domestic consumption of cotton 13,500 bags

The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in May 2011, the average daily consumption of domestic cotton was 13,500 bales. The average daily consumption was higher than the previous month's average of 13,300 bales, but it was lower than the 13,700 bales last May. In May (4 weeks), the total consumption was 269,000 bales, which was higher than the 237,000 bales of the previous month (4 weeks), but lower than the 275,000 bales of last May (4 weeks).

According to the Census Bureau report, as of the end of May 2011, textile mills had accumulated 134,000 bales of cotton stock. In contrast, 132,000 bales were stocked last month and 147,000 bales were stocked at the end of May last year. As of the end of May 2011, public cotton stocks were 3,442,000 bales, down from 4,656,000 bales last month and 4,975,000 bales at the end of May last year.
